We are confident your holiday in Kas will be one of the most memorable you have experienced but to help you enjoy it even more, we have prepared a few tips as a result of our own local knowledge and suggestions of previous guests.

Climate - Mediterranean with hot summers and mild winters. Temperatures average between 68° - 83°F in high season, May - Sept. Light cotton summer clothes with a cardigan for the evenings is recommended. A minimum of factor 15 sunscreen should be used when venturing into the sun.

Money - The currency is the new Lira and is about 2.5 to the pound depending on the exchange rate.

Spending Money - We do not usually change money before we go or take travellers cheques. Our best advice is to take sterling and change into Turkish currency at the bank. This ensures the best rate - commission is usually just 1%. There are about three cash points in Kas giving access to your personal bank accounts should you need to top up! Some establishments accept sterling and dollars.

Wine - There are two main wine producers in the area:- Doluca and Kavaklidere whose Cankaya white and Lal Rose are especially commendable. Their red wine is also fine and reasonably priced. Angora is another favourite in white or red.

When buying gifts, clothes, souvenirs etc. be prepared to haggle in order to get the best price. Everyone has to do this as most items are not priced. Don't feel mean, this is the tradition and how it works!

The Turks are a lovely people, very friendly but a polite no will always suffice.

When tipping in restaurants etc. try to use cash rather than credit cards, it will be much appreciated.

A full list of household tips and villa information will be waiting for you upon arrival along with all relevant contact telephone numbers including our management agents, local doctor etc.

Self Catering
When buying food for your Villa, there are a number of local shops we would particularly recommend:

Fish - Traditional fish shop in the market square (not the Friday market). The fish seller will weigh the fish of the day and you pay by weight.

Fruit and Veg - Buy from one of the three stalls together in the market square opposite the fish shop.

Fresh bread - From the Kiosk in the market square, also delivered to the villas every morning by our gardener.

Traditional pastries - Can be found at Cobanoglu Pstansei on Ataturk Bulvari Street.

Butchers - There are two good butchers half way up the hill on the right on Ataturk Bulvari street (See Kas map - In info pack, provided at the villas).

Supermarkets -  There are many supermarkets in Kas, Muhtar - just off the market square, is very popular with tourists.
